Camaguey has new sculpture of the sculptress Martha Jimenez

Camaguey- "Mata'o" the famous scultpure of the water carrier, is now in bronze, as part of the project by artist Martha Jimenez to move to lasting materials the whole set of the Plaza del Carmen.

This piece becomes the second sculpture transferred, after the trilogy "The Gossipy" as are known the three fat mulatto women, awarded by UNESCO since more than a decade.

Martha thanked the Office of the City Historian of Camaguey that has supported the project by the Foundation Caguayo Santiago de Cuba, where is located the foundry workshop.

Couple in love is the next to abandon its original terracotta material, for which has already done the plaster cast.

In an exchange with workers of Caguayo, Martha was told that they had not worked with any project with this magnitude, due to the amount of sculptures -seven specifically- with accessories of banks and vessels.

The ensemble, Martha said, should be ready by February 2014, when will be celebrated the 500th anniversary of the founding of the old Villa de Santa Maria del Puerto del Principe, now Camagüey.

Plaza del Carmen has been one of the great attractions of the city, enriched by the work of this woman from Holguin that based here, she has won praise and admiration of neighbors and visitors.

The prominent Cuban intellectual Miguel Barnet, president of the Union of Writers of Cuba, wrote: "(...) stop in front of Martha Jimenez's artworks, who ennobled all, because beauty is the only thing that guarantees the human condition."
