Martha Jimenez: symbol of Cuban identity at FitCuba 2018

The recently concluded International Tourism Fair (FitCuba) 2018, which took place in Cayo Santa Maria, Villa Clara (Cuba), was dedicated to the sun and beach product, and it had as a guest country of honor the United Kingdom. At the closing of the event Manuel Marrero Cruz, Minister of Tourism in Cuba, said that they were "four days of intense and fruitful negotiations. Such is the case, that I would dare to describe this fair as one of the best we have done so far¨.

During the celebration of the fair, there was an opportunity for the different tourist destinations in Cuba to publicize their products and services, with a marked interest in enhancing the authenticity through regional differentiation. Such is the case of the Studio-Workshop (art gallery) Martha Jimenez that is located in the Plaza del Carmen in the city of Camaguey, known as the labyrinth city, the tinajones, and the churches. The life and work of the renowned Camagueyan artist was present during all the days of FitCuba 2018 in different spaces.

The Martha Jimenez art gallery is one of the main attractions for travelers and tourists that visit the legendary Camaguey, declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With its winding cobblestone streets, it is an important tourist destination due to the history, culture and unique idiosyncrasies of the people of Camaguey. The appreciation of the art of Martha Jimenez has allowed since 2008, more than 12 thousand tourists of different nationalities have visited the gallery, mainly from Canada, France, Spain, the United States and Germany.

Martha Jimenez is considered one of the most talented artists of the last decades in Cuba. Her successful work has allowed her to participate in different national and international fair and events. In fact, she recently attended the Parallax Art Fair 2018 (London) and opened a personal exhibition in Santiago de Cuba, at the headquarters of Caguayo.

As part of the tribute in life to the artist, a rental house (hostel) is named after one of her most emblematic works: Gossipers (Chismosas). Martha Jimenez lived in this house for more than 30 years and illustrated her growth and development as an artist. In addition, lodging and gastronomy services are offered (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at the request of the client, in an atmosphere of harmony, comfort and personalized service.
